We do not recommend this method, however, as it prevents all GoToMyPC usage, including your authorized GoToMyPC users. You can prevent your company computers from being accessed via the GoToMyPC service by using your firewall to block access to the host. Having the ability to access your computer over the internet means that you are potentially transferring very personal and private data from the remote client to your local home computer, clearly without security this could be a major risk and vulnerability. In my mind this is Not a Good Thing, mostly because the one instance I had with it was when a user 'shared' out their desktop with a remote client via gotomypc in order to facilitate file transfers, thus giving the client full access to the rest of the network in the process.
GOTOMYPC SECURE SOFTWARE
The gotomypc software running on the internal PC reaches out and registers to the primary gotomypc servers, and the user then connects from there (again, bypassing any posture checks you have in your firewall). The problem with real gotomypc sessions is that it allows users to bypass your corporate firewall settings, and get -directly- onto their PC. More importantly, all of the data and files that you access remotely is proxied through a GoToMyPC server that you dont know anything about. While the products have similar capabilities, they don’t really compete with one another.
Last year, Citrix spun off the GoTo set of products in June, and by the end of the year they merged with LogMeIn. LogMeIn and GoToMyPC are both housed under the LogMeIn family of products.
